EMWIN UPDATE.....East Texas SKYWARN and The Longview/East Texas Amateur Radio Club
are proud to announce that our EMWIN Rebroadcast site is on the air!
East Texas SKYWARN now has the state-of-the-art GOES8 NOAA weather satellite feed which provides
the latest severe weather watch and warning information to our SKYWARN program. Any weather bulletins
issued by The National Weather Service in both Fort Worth, Texas, and Shreveport, Louisiana, as well as
the SPC in Norman, Oklahoma, are satellite downlinked and rebroadcast to our area on 150.435 MHz.
The retransmission site is equipped with full generator backup and the dish is a full 7' for maximum gain and
best signal during heavy rainfall. The retransmit antenna is located 650' MSL and is currently running
at 50 watts.
The EMWIN datastream can be obtained by anyone with a receiver/demodulator, software and a reasonable
outdoor receiving antenna.
The purchase and maintenance of this system was made possible by the LETARC Club membership as well
as other donors outside the club. For questions or other information about the site,
e-mail N5REO (Darrell Toland) .
John Galvin, N5TIM , advises:
FYI...You can take a regular amateur radio TNC and modify it for EMWIN.
All it takes is a slight modification to the TNC. Older ones like the
PK88 are perfect for this. This should reduce the cost of receiving
EMWIN quite a bit.
